On 14 May 2025, as part of the Annual Performance Review Meeting, a team from the European Commission (EC) visited Cyprus to review progress in the implementation of the “THALIA 2021-2027” Programme, which is co-funded by the Cohesion Policy Funds in the period 2021-2027.

The delegation was composed of Mr. Panayiotis Pantazatos, Mr. Kypros Kyprianou and Ms. Christina Karaitides on behalf EU Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and Ms. Barbara Kauffmann, Mr. Christos Koulouteris and Ms. Miranda Zavrou on behalf of EU Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Social Inclusion (DG EMPL).

The Annual Performance Review Meeting was attended by representatives of the national authorities and implementing bodies of the Programme (DG Growth, the Treasury, Internal Audit Service, Intermediate Bodies and Beneficiaries).

The Managing Authority (DG Growth) presented to the EU the progress in the implementation of “THALIA 2021-2027” achieved to date. The Programme is on track for implementation, as calls of a total budget of €1.21 million, corresponding to 81% of the Programme’s budget, have already been announced and published, while the total budget of projects whose implementation is already under way exceeds €1.71 billion, corresponding to 114% of the Programme’s budget. Other technical issues were also discussed at the meeting.

The Communication and Promotion Actions of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027” relating to the promotion of its objectives, projects and results were also presented.

It should be noted that the agenda of the Annual Meeting also included presentations on the tangible and financial results and achievements of the Operational Programmes “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development” and “Employment, Human Resources and Social Cohesion”, co-funded by the Cohesion Policy Funds in the period 2014-2020. It is worth noting that Cyprus is the first country to achieve full absorption of the European funds among the 27 member states.
