Europe Day 2026 Event – “Celebrating Europe!”

May 9, 2026

The celebratory event for Europe Day was held with great success on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Finikoudes seafront in Larnaca.

The event, under the central message “Celebrating Europe!”, was organized in collaboration with the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, the Municipality of Larnaca, the EUROPE DIRECT Larnaca-Famagusta Information Centre, and was held under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event was honored by the presence of the Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyras, the President of the European Parliament (through a video message), Roberta Metsola, and the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Mr. Costas Kadis.

The public had the opportunity to receive information from the “thematic booths” of European Programmes, the embassies of EU member states in Cyprus, as well as academic and local organizations, regarding the projects and policies of the European Union.

The Directorate General Growth of the Ministry of Finance participated in the event with information booths about the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021–2027” and the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan. In addition, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research presented the “Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture 2021–2027” Programme, while the Directorate of European Funds of the Ministry of Interior presented information on the Home Affairs Funds.
Young and old visited the booths, learned more about the EU co-funded projects, played the “memory game,” and won gifts.

A festive programme followed, featuring the Children’s Choir of the Municipality of Larnaca and the Trakart Contemporary Music Orchestra, offering a musical journey through Europe’s shared values: peace, solidarity, and the creative coexistence of peoples. The programme was inspired by iconic Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis, as well as songs that left a mark on Europe’s collective memory.
