Short Description/Objective 

The project concerns the development of a device named ACETT (Auditory Communication Enhancement Through Touch) aimed at people with hearing loss (deaf individuals or people with hearing impairment), through which access to the “auditory world” is provided by enhancing their hearing through the sense of touch. The device essentially converts sound into tactile sensation and enhances the perception of auditory stimuli that would otherwise be lost.

The project was co-financed within the framework of the Business Innovation Scheme “Development of Internationally Competitive Innovative Products and Services from STARTUPS” (SEED) of the RESTART Research Programmes of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), under the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027”.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes 

The use of the ACETT device is expected to contribute to improving communication for individuals with hearing loss, by assisting in the understanding of speech and environmental sounds, while functioning as a complementary tool alongside other communication method. In addition, it is expected to enhance their independence by providing greater autonomy in daily activities and ensuring that their real needs are effectively met.
