Short Description/Objective 

As part of its environmental policy and ongoing efforts to increase energy generation from renewable energy sources (RES), Aradippou Municipality has built a Photovoltaic Park with a capacity of 2.96 MW in Melissia in Aradippou, in an area of 46,866 square metres.

The overarching objective of the project is to integrate and contribute to the achievement of European and national targets for green transition to RES towards a low-carbon economy.

With the creation of the Photovoltaic Park, Aradippou Municipality has officially become the first Municipality in Cyprus to have its own Photovoltaic Park, investing in an important project that will offer the city a significant environmental and economic breathing space.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes

Thanks to this project and the investment in RES, Aradippou Municipality will become a role model for green growth.

In the first phase, the Photovoltaic Park will finance the Municipality’s electricity needs and will cover, in particular, the energy needs for the lighting of the road network within the municipal boundaries of Aradippou Municipality (Aradippou, Kellia and Troulloi), showing the way forward for other local authorities.

The project is also an important action that promotes the use of RES and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, ensuring better living conditions for citizens and improving ambient air quality in the area.
