Short Description/ Objective

The phased project, of which €2.1 million were co-funded by the “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development 2014–2020” Programme and €8.2 million by the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021–2027,” relates the construction of breakwaters in the marine areas of the Pervolia Bay and Oroklini.

The breakwater zone in Pervolia Bay is defined to the west by Petounta Cape and to the east by Kiti Cape. The project involves the construction of nine (9) surface-level breakwaters made of natural boulders. The total length of coastline to be protected is approximately 1,800 meters.

The breakwater zone in Oroklini is located opposite the Oroklini Police Station. The project involves the construction of seven (7) parallel breakwaters made of natural boulders, the demolition of the existing jetty in front of the Lebay Beach Hotel, and the raising of the three existing breakwaters to the east. The total length of coastline to be protected is approximately 1,100 meters.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes

The project contributes to the effective mitigation of coastal erosion along the shoreline of Pervolia and Oroklini areas, caused by strong wave action. It also aims to protect the coast and the properties along it from potential damage. The total length of coastline to be protected from erosion is approximately 2,900 meters.
