Short Description/Objective 

The project “Network of Independent Living Facilities and Services in the Community for People with Disabilities” has been designed as a continuation of the project of the previous programming period 2014-2020 “Supported Living Homes/Programmes”.

The project aims to create a supportive network of independent living services in the community for people with severe disabilities, mainly intellectual disability or autism, through:
(a) the continuation of the operation of the independent living homes that opened in the previous programming period,
(b) the operation of new homes, and
(c ) the operation of independent living support programmes.

A total of 19 homes/independent living programmes are expected to operate and serve up to 75 people with disabilities.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes 

The continued operation of the independent living homes/support programmes will upgrade the services provided to people with disabilities.

Independent living support services are expected to empower people with disabilities to take control of their own lifestyle and make decisions that affect their lives. Supported living ensures the fundamental right of every person to live independently and, at the same time, aims to develop and maintain, to the greatest extent possible, their skills and abilities. This enables them to live as autonomously and actively as possible within society, with the ultimate goal of avoiding marginalisation, social exclusion or institutionalisation.
