Short Description/Objective

The Zouhuri Mosque and the surrounding building complex with the same name – consisting of the courtyard, the perimeter buildings and the former Turkish Cypriot market – constitute one of the most important ancient monuments of Larnaka.

The project concerns the construction of new paving stones, the creation of green areas, resting areas and place for small-scale events, facilities for disabled people, maintenance and restoration of the indoor sides of the building, restoration and upgrading of the guest house and restoration of the ground floor building as an administration and information office.

The main aim of the project is the functional and aesthetic improvement of the place, highlighting its historical and traditional character and its functional connection with the surrounding areas in the city centre of Larnaka.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes

The revitalisation and upgrading of the specific area, which showed signs of decline, strongly deterioration of the built environment and alteration of its demographic nature, is expected to highlight its historical and traditional character, attracting both locals and foreign visitors.
