Short Description/Objective

It relates to a number of projects that aim to upgrade the safety and functionality of the electricity grid and enhance the further penetration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). These include, among others, the following:

• Installation of new and upgrading of existing electricity transmission stations with the installation of digital equipment and the application of smart grid technologies.
• Upgrading transmission lines by replacing existing conduits with high-capacity conduits.
• Deployment of a fibre optic distribution network for the needs of the energy grid.
• Automation of the medium-voltage distribution system, installation of a SCADA/ADMS system and simultaneous establishment and operation of a national distribution control centre.
• Deployment of appropriate infrastructure, equipment, systems and GIS applications to support the digital transformation of the grids.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes

• Modernization of the grid into a smart infrastructure, for the seamless integration of green energy, the development of energy storage and electromobility, as well as the gradual adaptation of the system to the requirements of the energy transition.
• Further penetration of RES and energy storage systems into the energy mix.
• Reduction of transmission losses and improvement of the system’s overall energy efficiency.
• Enhancement of the reliability, efficiency, and capacity of the electricity grid.
