Description/Objective

The Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre is being implemented within the framework of the project “Management of Natura 2000 Network Areas”, which is co-funded by the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021–2027”, with the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment acting as the Beneficiary.

The Centre was constructed and operates under the responsibility of the Game and Fauna Service, which is the competent authority for the rescue, care and rehabilitation of injured, sick and/or orphaned wild animals and endangered species, with the goal of their successful reintroduction into their natural habitat.

In cooperation with the relevant authorities, organised groups and members of the public, animals are transported to the Centre, where they receive the necessary care and veterinary treatment to ensure their full recovery and, whenever possible, their return to the wild.

The project concerns the development of modern facilities aimed at upgrading the care and rehabilitation services provided. Through these actions, the Centre’s capacity to receive, accommodate, treat and effectively rehabilitate wildlife for reintroduction into its natural environment will be significantly enhanced.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes

The new, modern facilities will significantly enhance the capacity for the rescue, care and rehabilitation of wildlife, representing an important investment in nature protection and the preservation of biodiversity in Cyprus.
