Today, 25 June 2026, an informal meeting of the Structural Measures and Outermost Regions (SMOR) Working Party was held in Paphos as part of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The Working Party is responsible for the technical and preparatory work related to negotiations on the Cohesion Policy Regulations within the Council of the EU. It brings together representatives from all EU Member States, the European Commission, and the General Secretariat of the Council.
During the meeting, Ms Anthi Philippidou, Director for Cohesion Policy and Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), presented the implementation and results of Cohesion Policy in Cyprus. This was followed by a presentation from a representative of the Municipality of Paphos on EU co-funded projects implemented in the city.
In the afternoon, participants visited landmark projects in the historic centre of Paphos that were delivered with the support of Cohesion Policy. They also had the opportunity to experience Cyprus’s rich culture and history through a visit to the city’s renowned mosaics.
The meeting highlighted the vital role of Cohesion Policy in promoting sustainable development, strengthening social cohesion, and enhancing local communities across Europe.
