Inauguration Ceremony of  the Municipal Centre of Social Programmes “Municipal Buildings of Ploutis Servas” in the Municipality of Limassol

On Friday, November 25, 2022, the Adult Employment Centre and the Municipal Centre of Social Programmes “Municipal Buildings of Ploutis Servas” were inaugurated by the President of the Republic Of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiades. The total cost of the two projects amounted to €6.6 mil. (€1.8 mil. and €4.8 mil. respectively) and were co-funded by the EU.

The statements made by the President of the Republic of Cyprus are indicative for the importance that is given: “The new view that Limassol acquires through the completion of these projects or those ones that are planned, the acquisition of contemporary infrastructures and further perspectives of development, establish Limassol as more human and operational. At the same time, the projects create conditions of a high level of quality of life which benefits the citizens, highlighting at the same time its rare cultural and natural wealth.”

The Mayor of Limassol, Nikos Nikolaides, stated: “The Adult Employment Centre as well as the Municipal Centre of Social Programmes “Municipal Buildings of Ploutis Servas” are two of the four major implementation projects of the Municipality’s policy, for redefinition and substantial upgrading social policy and programmes”.. “The third project, which constitutes a pioneering project, is the Support and Reintegration Centre of persons who face difficulties in  accessing housing. And the fourth and flagship project of the social policy of our Municipality, is a big project of more than €100 mil., which concerns the construction, in collaboration with Cyprus Land Development Corporation (CLDC), of approximately 600 affordable housing units in three municipal blocks. This project will help hundreds of our fellow citizens, new couples, low-income families and students, to acquire or rent house in affordable prices. I wish, construction works for this huge project that utilizes welfare and is part of the government’s social housing policy  will start soon, as with the involvement of our municipality, new paths will be opened for dealing with this extremely crucial issue for the citizens.” 

Adult Employment Centre

It is about a two-storey building with underground parking, which is an excellent infrastructure for elderly people in Limassol area in general. Moreover, the Centre includes contemporary facilities, which include an event hall with adequate equipment.

Our retired fellow citizens can visit on a daily basis this place, to meet friends, to schedule and participate in sport, civil and other educational and entertainment activities, enjoying a daily exceptional quality at this phase of their life. Pattichio Adult Employment Centre has also been moved in this place.

It is stated that the project, of a total budget of €1.8 mil., was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, in the framework of the Operational Programme “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development 2014-2020.”  

Municipal Centre of Social Programmes “Municipal Buildings of Ploutis Servas”

The project constitutes of a complex of four buildings, that is the three upgraded old labour buildings that were constructed after the World War II and a new three-storey building. These four buildings will constitute the most modern multi-centre of social services, hosting social programmes of the Municipality, such as “Free Hands” and the Counselling Services Programme “Odysseas” in the sector of addictions. Additionally, the Centre will host social policy programmes coming from third parties, such as the Youth Organisation, the Maternity Programme of TEPAK and the Legal Aid Provision Programme of the Pancyprian Association of Lawyers.

The Municipal Centre of Social Programmes was named “Municipal Buildings of Ploutis Servas” to honour the late Mayor of Limassol, Ploutis Servas, who constructed the labour buildings in 1948.

It is stated that the project, of a total budget of €4.8 mil., was co-funded by the EU in the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027”.
