Short Description/Objective
The project is part of the strategic planning for the transformation of the University Campus into a green and smart Campus, which will be able to deal flexibly with the future challenges of the University’s development in a sustainable context.
The first phase involves the installation of photovoltaic systems with a capacity of 5 MW and an electricity storage system with a capacity of 2,35 MWh.
Expected Benefits/Outcomes
The Photovoltaic Park “Apollon” is expected to generate 8,4 GWh of clean energy per year, which corresponds to 50% of the current electricity needs of the Campus.
The creation of the of the Photovoltaic Park is expected to result in a reduction of approximately €2 million in the Institution’s energy bills and a reduction of 5,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
The installation of an energy storage system makes the project pioneering, as it would be the first large scale installation of such a system in Cyprus and would be the backbone of the future energy management system of the Campus, as it will contribute to the electrification and decarbonization of energy systems.
