Short Description/Objective:

The project, with a total budget of €6.2 million, is a bridge project, of which €1.9 million was co-funded by the “Competitiveness and Sustainable Development 2014-2020” Programme and €4.3 is co-funded by by the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027”.

The municipal buildings on Misiaouli – Kavazoglou street are monuments of historical and architectural importance and their reconstruction marks the first social policy interventions of the Municipality. More specifically, the municipal buildings were restored and repurposed, as social and cultural infrastructures, symbols of the municipal authority’s active intervention over time.

The first municipal building operates as a Multifunctional Centre for Social Services. The second municipal building operates as an after-School Activity Centre for Children and Adolescent, while the third will host Activities and Programmes focused on the modern needs of young people aged 13-35.

Expected Benefits/Results:

The reconstruction of the municipal buildings will help to improve the image of the area and support the social cohesion of the residents.

The Multifunctional Centre for Social Services will co-house counseling and social support services with a particular emphasis on vulnerable groups facing socio-economic difficulties, such as recipients of state benefits, migrants, people with a history of substance addictions, as well as people under the care of Social Welfare Services or who need specialized psychosocial support.

The after-School Activity Centre for Children and Adolescent is expected to have a great response to the residents, bearing in mind the increased needs of the area and the fact that only in the nearby buildings of the Land Development Corporation which houses low-income families, today there are more than 90 children. The Programme essentially aims at the healthy afternoon activity for teenagers after school and therefore, at the prevention of youth anti-social behavior. The Programme will offer school study and custody to students who do not have these opportunities through their existing socio-economic environment.

Activities and Programmes for young people aged 13-35 will involve specialized counseling and professional guidance services, psychological support, but also various primary prevention actions, strengthening healthy ways of activities as well as learning social skills and education.
