Short Description/Objective
The project concerns the upgrading of the infrastructure and the gradual transition to electric mobility of Public Passenger Transport fleets, the simultaneous production of electricity in an ecological way, as well as ensuring multimodality in transport.
The project includes:
- The upgrading of central bus stations.
- The upgrading of bus stops and carports.
- The introduction, initially, of a fleet of buses to serve the cores of the historical city centers.
- The creation of an infrastructure for the introduction of electric mobility in bus fleets.
Expected Benefits/Outcomes
The new and smart bus stops and carports will provide both protection against weather conditions and information to the public through state-of-the-art screens, smart lighting, Wi-fi and charging of smart phones. These smart bus stops are also specially designed to be accessible by Persons with Disabilities. In addition, there is an audio announcement for the arrival of the bus.
Upgrading of bus stations is a prerequisite for ensuring passenger service, their safe movement and increasing the usage of Public Passenger Transport, with all the positive effects that this brings. Moreover, it is expected that the cores of the historic city centers will be served by electric buses as well as reduction of pollutants in the most densely built urban environment and where there is a gathering of visitors, with benefits for air quality, health, etc.
